So Nintendo randomly dropped their 'mini' direct 2 days ago without any notice which was quite annoying as there wasn't much lead up and spoilers for it were everywhere. I love going into presentations knowing nothing but before I went into this one, I already knew about so many things from the thumbnail and suggested videos beside it. Aside from that, I thought Nintendo had a pretty decent showing. It wasn't mind-blowing (No Smash Bros, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Etc.), but it was a nice look into what's coming in the first half of 2018.
First we were shown The World Ends With You - Final Remix which I wasn't too excited for as I never played the original but its good that other people want it. The more games on the Switch, the better! Then we got some DLC for Pokkén Tournament Deluxe which I did not expect at all. I think it looks cool but I'm not sure if I'll pick it up. Next they showed Kirby which I am SO hyped for. I love Kirby games and Star Allies seems to be a great entry in the series. There's no gimmicks or annoying new twists. It's just classic style Kirby while also keeping things new. I'll definitely be picking this up on Day 1. They then reminded us of the Kirby Battle Royale Demo and also announced a demo for Dragon Quest Builders.
Next was Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition which I'll probably be getting as I didn't get any of the DLC for the Wii U version or play the 3DS game. I really enjoyed what I played and I can't wait to play some more. After that was Mario Tennis Aces which I am really happy about. Nintendo seems to have learned from the mistakes they made with Ultra Smash and is introducing a single player mode. The multiplayer game also looks more polished. Next was Ys 8 which I'm not too interested in but looks cool. Then Nintendo showed some free DLC for Super Mario Odyssey which I found kind of disappointing as I would have preferred more fully fleshed out, paid DLC with new kingdoms and characters but I'm sure Nintendo will probably do that some time in the future. Nevertheless, it's pretty cool that Nintendo's giving us some free content. They showed off SNK: Heroines which I'm not interested in at all. It looks far too simplistic and bland, especially with so many other fighters on the Switch There was also another fighting game; ACA Neogeo Art of Fighting 2, some Donkey Kong DLC for Mario and Rabbids which looks awesome, more details on Payday 2 and then Fe and Celeste which I'm sure will be cool but they're not really my types of games. Then there was my favourite announcement of the direct, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. This was one of my favourite games on the Wii U if not my favourite and I'm so happy more people will get to play this. It under performed on the Wii U and I'm probably going to double dip anyway. Lastly, there was Dark Souls, which I knew was coming before I watched it because of the suggested videos, but its good that it's coming to the Switch.
I think overall, a lot of people will be disappointed by this direct because of all the hype and lead up. There wasn't really any major announcement but I'm okay with that (as long as there's something later in the year). What I didn't like was the way Nintendo handled it. I would have preferred if they had said 'A direct will be coming on this day at this time' so I would've known when to go online. I really don't like being spoiled for things like this. I love going into directs knowing nothing and being surprised. But with Donkey Kong, The World Ends With You, Kirby and Mimikyu in the thumbnail as well as 'Dark Souls - Nintendo Switch Trailer' and 'Hyrule Warriors is coming to Nintendo Switch' as suggested videos, there wasn't much exciting surprises for me.
Anyways that's my opinion on the Nintendo Direct. Do you agree? What are your thoughts? Comment down below.
